Pakwach Ebola Outbreak Result Shows Negative

Residents of Pakwach district were in panic after the death of unidentified Congolese woman with Ebola-like symptoms took place on Sunday last week in Nyabang village, Alwi Sub County

Ebola response team in the district acted swiftly and isolated the body from exposure to other community members and submitted samples to Uganda Virus Research Institute-UVRI for examinations to establish the cause of death.

Test results are now back and it shows negative according to the Uganda Virus Research Institute.

Dr Jane Aceng, the minister of health says that the results show that the woman tested negative for all hemorrhagic fevers.
"The lady who passed away in Pakwach tested negative for all the hemorrhagic fevers." Samples from the deceased were tested for Ebola, Marburg, Rift Valley Fever, Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, and Anthrax.

Pakwach is one of the high-risk districts that are under surveillance following the outbreak of Ebola in DR Congo last year in August. As of last week, a total of 2025 Ebola cases had been reported in DR Congo. 1357 deaths have been recorded in the country.
