As Uganda prepares for the 2026 General Election, musician Astro Lifa has announced his decision to withdraw from the Nebbi Municipality mayoral race, following his mother's counsel.
"I intended to run for mayor in Nebbi Municipality, but my mother advised me to be patient," the singer of the hit "Avatida" shared. "She told me, ‘You are still young; politics is challenging.’"
Despite stepping back, Astro remains committed to supporting his followers and the Nebbi community, hinting at future political ambitions. "If I continue to see no development in Nebbi, I will run in the future to help my people," he stated.
Astro Lifa made these remarks on the Daily Fix Podcast UG YouTube channel, where he was asked about challenges in Nebbi Municipality. "I am aware of the issues, but this isn’t the right time to expose them," he commented. "I will address them when I have the people’s mandate."
Astro Lifa, whose real name is Emmanuel Okello, has shown interest in politics after the 2021 elections.
He is not alone in his political ambitions; Elton Loverboy also declared his intention to run for the position of Member of Parliament in the 2026 General Election.
