Alur musicians are in Limbo regarding an upcoming meeting meant to elect their leadership, which would allow them to form an organized association, access programs, and join the Uganda National Music Federation, led by renowned Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo.

An initial meeting was held on Saturday, 10 August 2024, but ended abruptly following accusations that it was being overseen by artists from the Lugbara and Lango sub-regions.

Reports later confirmed the meeting was rescheduled for Saturday, 17 August 2024.

However, yesterday, the Alur Entertainers Association issued a notice stating that the meeting had been postponed to 24 August 2024, exclusively for musicians, excluding other entertainers such as MCs, DJs, and talent managers.

This morning, another announcement surfaced on social media from an organization named "GRAMA', echoing the same details as the Alur Entertainers Association, but the meeting has been adjusted to Friday, 23 August 2024 in GAF.

According to the spokesperson for the Alur Entertainers Association, Kibula, the date changes were made under the direction of the AEA's chairperson, Rasta Longe.

Kibula also stated he is unaware of the group called GRAMA', remarking, "I hear the group is associated with Mercy Leko... I’ll call her to learn more about GRAMA," he added while laughing.

W'ojok Dekoda, regarded as the main antagonist of the Alur Entertainers Association (Nebbi), also leads a group by the same name in Kampala and raises concerns over what he perceives as political interference in the region’s artistic scene.

"I don’t understand why they keep changing the dates for the meeting. What is GRAMA? And why are they excluding other entertainers? We need an association that unites entertainers from Nebbi, Pakwach, and Zombo. Anyone who wants to offer support, including the government, should work with us when we are organized, not in this and that." The Banana singer retaliates.

When contacted, Rasta Longe confirmed his awareness of the changes made by GRAMA Associates and expressed support for the move. He emphasized that artists should not be concerned about the name of the association but should focus on electing leaders who can represent them effectively.

Rasta Longe also clarified that artists are welcome to join both GRAMA and the Alur Entertainers Association (AEA), noting that GRAMA is solely for musicians, while AEA is open to all entertainers from the region.

"As for me, Rasta Longe, I am a member of both AEA and GRAMA," he stated.

Mercy Leko, the interim president of the Greater Alur Music Association (GRAMA), has stated that she is unaware of any official communication from the association regarding a meeting scheduled for Friday, August 23, 2024.

"To the best of my knowledge, no meeting has been called. GRAMA will, however, arrange a gathering for all artists before the end of the month," she clarified.

Leko ended the conversation just before she could provide a list of artists affiliated with GRAMA.

Nonetheless, she had previously informed this website that all artists registered with the Alur Entertainment Association (AEA) are automatically members of GRAMA.
