The meeting held last week to elect a representative for the Greater Nebbi Alur Entertainers hit a snag.

Entertainers were encouraged to reorganize after Eddy Kenzo, president and founder of the Uganda National Music Federation (UNMF), pledged his full support to the Alur music industry, promising to ensure "Nebbi shines" through sports and artistry.

An artist who attended the meeting at the George Adubango Foundation (GAF) Apartments in Nebbi Municipality reported that the election could not proceed due to unresolved disputes that emerged during the conference.

The Issue with Hans and Hassan Big Brother

Artists criticized 'Hans,' who claimed to be the West Nile Representative of the UNMF, over the handling of 15 million UGX that UNMF President Eddy Kenzo provided to support the artistic industry.

Hans, accompanied by West Nile TV presenter Hassan de Big Brother, explained that part of the funds was used to settle outstanding rent dues and cover other operational costs. He also stated that he is leading the West Nile Music Association, which he says has desks representing various tribes of West Nile artists.

According to Hans, Lucky Dee had informed him that he was the main representative of Alur artists, a claim that the Trouble Base Commando refutes.

Attendees of the meeting also alleged that Hans and his team named individuals as representatives of Alur musicians who do not exist, further fueling bitterness.

This disagreement consumed much of the meeting, leading to its adjournment. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the same venue.

What Artists Expect in the Next Meeting

The entertainers are looking to elect recording artists who share their challenges.

They are opposed to having politicians represent them, as they believe these individuals are primarily motivated by access to government or external funding.

They aim to elect well-known, articulate, and capable artists who can advocate for them at various levels.

Additionally, they are seeking representation from at least two artists each from the districts of Pakwach, Nebbi, and Zombo, as well as those living in Kampala, to ensure inclusivity.

The plan also includes selecting representatives from lower local governments, such as sub-counties and town councils, to facilitate better communication and support within the region.
