Entertainers from the Greater Nebbi region are gathering today at the George Adubango Foundation (GAF) to elect representatives for the Uganda National Musicians Federation, led by Uganda's prominent artist Eddy Kenzo.

This gathering comes in response to Eddy Kenzo's commitment to elevate Greater Nebbi’s profile on the global stage.

Kenzo made this pledge during the "Leru Pa Nebbi" event on August 3, 2024, which celebrated the appointment of Phiona Nyamutoro as the State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources.

Before the event, a new association, the Alur Entertainers Association, was established. This group was formed by two factions of artists—one based in Kampala, Uganda's capital, and the other from the locally based Artists in Nebbi.

Tensions have arisen between these factions over the association's name, with both sides insisting on changes.

In light of these tensions, entertainers decided to meet today, Saturday, August 10, 2024, to resolve their differences and work towards a shared objective.

The agenda includes electing new leaders who will effectively represent the region within the Uganda National Musicians Federation.

These elections aim to replace individuals accused of mismanaging funds allocated by the Ugandan government to support the local arts industry.

For many years, the Ugandan government has been supporting local Artists, but in Nebbi, few artists have been benefiting from government initiatives such as Emyooga, Bonagagawale, Youth Livelihood Programs, and Parish Development Module, among others, due to poor leadership of most formed associations.

For many years, the Ugandan government has provided support to local artists through initiatives such as Emyooga, Bonna Bagaggawale, the Youth Livelihood Program, and the Parish Development Model.

However, in Nebbi, only a few artists have benefited from these programs, largely due to the ineffective leadership of the associations formed to manage these resources.
