The Alur Entertainers Association (AEA) has refuted claims circulating on social media that local artists from the Greater Nebbi District intend to boycott the LERU PA NEBBI Thanksgiving ceremony.

The event is meant to welcome the newly installed State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, Nyamutoro Phiona, in her home town, Nebbi Municipality.

In a press release issued on Sunday, July 28, 2024, the AEA Spokesperson, Kibula, accused bloggers of spreading misinformation, which he describes as "petty politics."

"We are aware that some people are being used in the name of artists of Greater Nebbi to paint a bad picture with petty politics," the statement reads in part. "Rule out completely the artists of Greater Nebbi in that pool of political lies," it adds.

The AEA condemned the alleged political maneuvering, which included claims that Hon. Min. Phiona Nyamutoro and Mercy Leko promised 200,000 UGX to contacted artists within Greater Nebbi and that G1 Longe had convinced them.

The statement concludes by affirming that only the "finest artists" of Greater Nebbi will perform at the event, scheduled for August 3, 2024, at the Nebbi SS playground.

Early last week, artists raised their eyebrows about the unreasonable amount of money that the event organizers were planning to offer them to grace the stage before the Hon. Min. Nyamutoro Phiona and His Excellency, Yoweri Museveni Kaguta.

Recently, names of some performing artists, including Astro Lifa, Bush Boy, Maya Keys, Longe, Joanitah D Gyal, Elton, Brayo, and Riaso Boy, have been circulating on social media as potential performers at the event.
