Local artists in the greater Nebbi are planning to boycott the Thanksgiving Ceremony of State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources, Phiona Nyamutoro, scheduled for August 3, 2024, over disagreements regarding unreasonable payments.

The event is slated to happen in Nebbi Secondary School playgrounds in Nebbi Municipality, where Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni Kaguta is going to be the guest of honor.

The artists claim that some associates close to the organizers are backstabbing them with "Penny tokens" to perform, which they find unacceptable.

The artists are dissatisfied with the token proposed by the event organizers, arguing that it fails to meet their expectations and needs.

A source who requested anonymity disclosed that certain individuals have informed the Minister that they have convinced the artists to perform for a minimal token or fuel allowance. The artists, however, have vehemently opposed this arrangement.

Artists’ Plights:

The artists are advocating for a fair and transparent compensation structure, which they have yet to publicly disclose. They emphasize that artists from Central Uganda, expected to attend the event, will likely receive significantly higher payments.

The Artists also want to perform before both the state minister, Nyamutoro Phiona, and His Excellency, Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, so that they can use the platform to pass some of their grievances directly to the minister and His Excellency.

What The  Artists Need to be Done:

Transparent Negotiations:Organizers should engage in open and transparent negotiations with the artists, ensuring that their concerns and expectations are addressed.

Fair Payment: A fair and equitable compensation structure should be established, taking into account the contributions and expenses of the local artists.

Clear Communication: Both parties should maintain clear and consistent communication to prevent misunderstandings and ensure mutual agreement.

Involvement of Neutral Parties: Involving neutral parties or mediators in the negotiation process could help in reaching a fair agreement and avoiding conflicts.

Recently, names of some Performing Artistes including Astro Lifa, Bush Boy, Maya Keys, Longe, Joanitah D Gyal, Elton, Brayo, and Riaso Boy, have been circulating through social media that they will perform during the event.

Corridor talks also indicate that in Pakwach District, a gospel artist, M. Vani will also perform, while in Zombo District, no performing artist was indicated to perform in the event.

This is a developing story...
