There has been a burning question in corridors of the music fraternity on why the songs of female artists are receiving less plays on air and ground.
Hotel manager and artist, Moiza explains the why below;
Asking others to explain your preference in music is a tough one. This is more of asking to know whether someone wants to take shower in the football field or in the bathroom.
I would say, don't ever let anyone dictate what music genre you want to listen to because if you do, you will miss out on a lot of great music.
Therefore we should look at gender diversity in the music industry if it is contributing to more or less consumption of female songs.
First of all, music has nothing to do with gender as we may think it's. The reason is, most of the women don't find interest in singing educative songs like male counterparts do. While male singers always try to spice up their music with love songs just to capture the listeners/follower’s attention. Men do this trickery style to fit in a society full of younger generation and they're still actively in love. So female counterparts are more focused on love songs which serves only one side.
This again raised a question, why are female artists underrepresented?
I think this could lead to gender group and involvement in active participation in music which basically men take a bigger part than the ladies.
I suggest that perception of gendering of a musical composition may be dependent on the sex of the listeners, which may influence their overall response to music. And perception of masculinity or feminist, so that men and women must have slightly different of music experience resulting from gender balancing.
There are a myriad of reasons that could be the case but one perspective to consider is that, female singers are oftentimes more applauded for being lyrical and emotionally when vocalizing. Perhaps a good message in the song may just draw you to dynamic vocalist. However, the brain takes female voice as an instrument to the ears.
For example, West Nile has got two female singers with romantic voices but they still have lesser consumers and air play compared to the male counterparts!
I always asks myself, why are our female artists are not climbing like the female artists from the central Uganda?
And i gave myself an answer, it is because our people have developed across the bridge love over our ladies yet we can jointly make them known. Of course we don't love ourselves and we don't want to see our fellows to progress in either way or the other.
I would like to submit to my fellow Alur that our female music is taking steps but it requires persistence and discipline among us. If we could have more of Bdong Brian and Derrick Passy, we shall see that our female artists are climbing high.
We have Aweko Cissy and Amaro Pasha all were under the management of Bdong and his team of Team Unstoppable Music with Manager Cannan while Derrick assisting.
Bdong and Derrick exhibit spirit of humanity and equality. They do not consider skirts over elevating west Nile music which many managers and promoters have failed to exhibit. This is one of the factors that have led to demoralization of concentrating in music (I mean female counterpart).
