As early as 9am on Saturday Mayor's Garden Nebbi was filled up with over 500 people from different walks of life ranging from Politicians, cultural leaders, District top Leaders , Locals, Students and Among others Dancing Agwara Royal melody (Alur's Cultural dance) by Kucwiny Theatre and Nyaravur Alur Kingdom Troop waiting for the arrival of the chief Guest Rt. Hon Jacob Oulanyah L'okori Deputy Speaker Parliament of Uganda to grace the Long awaited Launch.
Chief Guest being A Punctual visitor, by 10:30 am he was already at the venue with his Team from Kampala ,welcomed with jubilations, ululations, and cheers all over corners.
He immediately joined the Locals in Agwara dance and Also actively participated in Beating of 'Min Vul' main Drum(Base) The Function was graced with speeches from Different stake holders and Leaders Nebbi Municipality, applauding the government of Uganda Under The Leadership of President Yoweri Museveni for granting Nebbi Municipality status and stabilizing peace , development and Security.
Amidst the speeches came a vocal Chairperson of Nebbi District NRM women League Mrs Ocamgiu Zenubiya of Erussi who took chance of the one minute given to her by Chairperson NRM Nebbi District Mr K.G Adubango. She openly told Rt. Hon. Deputy speaker that women of Nebbi are in need of meeting the president in Person. "You are close to the President, Please tell him that we really need to meet him in person and discuss with Him our issues face to face" she added Addressing the mass. Hon Aol Jacqueline the Executive Director WEWODA was overwhelmed by the turn up and promised the electorates that she is ready to deliver to her best. " it wasn't easy for me to organize this occasion and I thought would collapse before reaching here but I thank God that we are all here" she said . Nebbi Municipality already has more than ten Non Governmental Organization (NGO) like ; Action Aid, Plan, AFARD, WENIPS, BRAC, CEGED, among others. The municipality is yet blessed with another Registered one Known as West Nile Women Development Agency (WEWODA) Founded by Hon Aol Jacquelin Rama, Woman Mp Nebbi as the Executive Director.
And it aims at empowering Women, Children and Youths through skilling them and sustainable Agriculture with its office space secured on Oringi Road opposite Former Rainbow Community Radio. In His Speech as the Chief guest, Rt. Hon Deputy Speaker Oulanyah Jacob L'okori a member of Parliament Omoro county applauded people of Nebbi Municipality for electing Pro Government Leaders and Urged them to re-elect back their current leaders comes He also reminded people of West Nile that it is only under NRM government under the Leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Musevini, a Tarmac road was built from Kampala to Arua yet previously West Nile Region had a President that was in Power for close to 9 solid Years. "As government we have greatly improved on Health, security, Education, Transport, Trade , stability and Sustainability. Government bucket my never be enough even in European countries and such gaps can be filled by NGO's That's why people like Hon Aol Jacqueline are coming with such developmental initiatives like WEWODA please support her" He concluded.
Before he took his seat, the Rt Hon Deputy Speaker organized brief fundraising that resulted to a total cash collection of 945,100 Uganda Shillings, and pledges worth UGX4.3 million to support WEWODA and handed a cheque of 5 Million Shillings. About WEWODA West Nile Women Development Agency is a grass root Women Led Community Based Organization (CBO) operating in Nebbi dully Registered by the District Community Development Office.
Vision Fighting vulnerability of women and delivery of high quality demand driven training skills programmes to priority sectors in West Nile Region and Nebbi District as a pilot district. Mission To ensure that women and the Youth in Nebbi are empowered with appropriate knowledge and skills for increased productivity and a sustainable income base. WEWODA gives assistance to vulnerable girls and boys , and triggered to focus on sensitization to these groups after realizing that there is a lot gender disparity in the Education sector in the District despite Government policy f UPE and USE.
WEWODA ongoing projects includes; West Nile Women Agro Development Project in TingKori alala Sub county, Keep a girl in school initiative (Top up school fees for some girls and mentorship) , advocacy against violence and discrimination of women and girls. Strategies and planned interventions includes; Community mobilization and awareness creation through community dialogues, Village campaigns on children's rights, Facilitation and Empowerment of cultural institutions, Research, Legal and Policy development, Establish Youth centres, Business Skills training , Linkages to better markets , Establish modern demo Farm.
